The CRIP is the focus of Intellectual Property research at Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai. It aims to lead research and promote interdisciplinary work in IP law, policy, and practice through rigorous academic research, high-quality researchers, and by conducting seminars, workshops, and conferences. The Centre brings together legal academics, policymakers, and industrial experts recognized for their historical and inter-disciplinary vigour to promote understanding and critical appraisal of IP law.
Aims and Objectives:
The development of IP law has led to new subject matters and challenges, requiring practitioners to specialize. The Centre aims to streamline IP learning through academic courses and programs. It also focuses on research on industry-academia cooperation and addressing knowledge gaps in effective technology sharing and joint research. Other objectives include:
- Provide a platform for discussion, deliberation, and debate in IP laws and familiarize stakeholders with IP literacy.
- Conduct academic research to suggest improvements in legislation and policies through academic and industrial consultations.
- Collaborate nationally and internationally for research in IP law with corporate companies, law firms, governmental departments, PSUs, judicial institutions, and educational institutes.
- Conduct training programs and outreach activities including specialized Masters courses, short-term and long-term certificate courses, diplomas, seminars, and conferences.
- Assist the government with legal research and advice on national and international IP laws, practice-related matters, and relevant subjects.
- Offer evidence-based research results including policy papers, working papers, and research reports for academia, policymakers, private sector, and the general public.
- Publish a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to intellectual property law and practice.

Patent law, Trademark law, Domain names and cyber regulations, Personality rights, Copyright law, Design protection, Utility Models, Science and Technology, Non-traditional forms of intellectual property rights, etc.
