About the Centre

The Centre for Mediation and Research (“CMR”) at MNLU Mumbai was inaugurated in January 2019.
It is the first Centre in India dedicated solely to the subject of Mediation. The Centre envisions itself
as a place of study and research, and wishes to collate, build resources, archive and disseminate the
knowledge, process and practice of mediation and conciliation in the country.

The aim of the Centre is to design and run courses for the study and certification in Mediation, Conciliation,
Conflict Resolution and Collaborative Dispute Resolution. The Centre also hopes to publish
papers/journals relating to these areas.

Activities of the Centre

  • Feb 2019: Workshop on Mediation Orientation for Patient Doctor Conflict Resolution with participants from across India.
  • May 2019: 40 hours Certificate Course on Mediation in Family Disputes attended by 41 advocates and lawyers.
  • Jun 2019: MoU signed with Main Mediation Centre, High Court of Mumbai for training judicial officers, lawyers and judges.
  • Jul 2019: MoU signed with MAHARERA, followed by 2-day seminar on Conciliation with 60+ participants.
  • Nov 2019: Meet the Mediator talk with Finland’s foremost mediator Antti Heikinheimo. 5 such events completed so far.
  • Feb 2020: Mediation session with MNLU Mumbai students and faculty on the CAA issue.
  • Sep 2020: Launched India’s first Master’s Degree Program in Mediation and Conflict Resolution for professionals.
  • Feb 2021: Started Capacity Building Workshop Series. First session: Legal Validity of Mediation by Mr. Prathamesh D. Popat.
