About the Centre
The Centre for Research in Criminal Justice was established to promote and advance national and comparative research and scholarship in the area of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice, Criminology, Victimology, and Human Rights. The Centre has been inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Naresh Patil (Judge, Bombay High Court) and Hon’ble Justice A.S. Oka (Judge, Bombay High Court) in the presence of Shri. Ashutosh Kumbhakoni (Advocate General, State of Maharashtra), Dr. Milind Sathe (Advocate and President, Bombay Bar Association), and other legal luminaries on 13th January 2018.
Objectives of the Centre
- To carry out coordinated research into the efficacy and adequacy of the Criminal Justice System in India and communicate findings to Government agencies.
- To research, analyze, and critically examine criminal laws, policies, and programs, and disseminate findings through publications, workshops, and seminars.
- To organize training programs, webinars, and seminars for students, academicians, and researchers.
- To initiate student-centric outreach programs.
- To provide a platform for exchanging thoughts about current events and topics in criminal law and human rights.
CRCJ has also introduced two Postgraduate Diploma programs (2021):
1. Crime Investigation, Medical Jurisprudence & Forensic Science
2. Litigation Lawyering & Law Firm Management
Additionally, initiatives such as Criminal Justice Talks and CRCJ Quizzical are organized regularly.
